2.  ELIGIBILITY & PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY

By registering for any Studio Norae program, you confirm that:

  • You are 18 years of age or older

  • You are not currently in acute psychiatric crisis, active suicidal ideation, or significant psychiatric instability

  • You have disclosed any physical injuries, conditions, or limitations relevant to yoga, movement, or extended sitting prior to your first session

  • You have adequate support in place outside the program — including a therapist, trusted person, or clinical contact — particularly for emotionally oriented programs

  • You understand that Studio Norae programs are a complement to professional mental health care and not a substitute for it

If you are uncertain whether a program is appropriate for your current circumstances, please contact lauren@studionorae.com before registering. We welcome that conversation.

3.  INFORMED CONSENT

Please read this section carefully. It constitutes your informed consent to participate in Studio Norae programs.

By completing your registration and checking the agreement box at checkout, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and consent to the following.

Nature of the work

Studio Norae programs are somatic and expressive arts experiences. They are intentionally designed to invite participants into closer contact with their inner lives — including feelings, sensations, memories, and material that may not have had space to surface before. Difficult emotions or unexpected psychological material may arise during or after sessions. This is not a side effect. It is part of the process, and the container is designed to hold it.

Not therapy

Studio Norae programs are not psychotherapy, psychological treatment, or clinical mental health care of any kind. Lauren Shin is not a licensed psychotherapist, psychologist, counselor, or medical professional. Participation does not constitute a clinical or therapeutic relationship. These programs are designed to complement — not replace — professional mental health support.

Lauren Shin’s credentials and professional background are available at studionorae.com/about.

Your acknowledgment

By registering, you confirm that you:

  • Understand the nature of this work and voluntarily choose to participate

  • Understand these programs are not therapy and do not provide clinical mental health treatment

  • Are not using this program as a substitute for clinical mental health care

  • Have adequate support in place — a therapist, trusted person, or clinical contact — to hold material that may arise between sessions

  • Will communicate openly with the facilitator if something arises that feels beyond your capacity

  • Have reviewed Lauren Shin’s credentials at studionorae.com/about and understand the scope of her practice

Full Participant Agreement & Liability Waiver

All participants are required to complete a Participant Agreement and Liability Waiver before attending their first session. This document covers assumption of physical and emotional risk, release of liability, emergency contact, health disclosure, and group confidentiality agreements. It will be sent to you upon registration and must be signed before your first session.

By registering you acknowledge this requirement and agree to complete it before attending. Your registration does not guarantee participation until the Participant Agreement is received and confirmed.

If you do not currently have a therapist and would like a referral to one of our clinical partners before joining, contact lauren@studionorae.com. We would rather have that conversation before you register than have you arrive without adequate support in place.

4.  NATURE OF SERVICES — NOT THERAPY

Studio Norae programs are not therapy.

Studio Norae offers somatic and expressive arts facilitation. Lauren Shin is not a licensed psychotherapist, psychologist, counselor, or medical professional. Participation in Studio Norae programs does not constitute a clinical or therapeutic relationship.

Some programs are co-facilitated with a licensed clinical therapist. The presence of a licensed therapist as a co-facilitator does not constitute a therapeutic relationship between that therapist and program participants.

Studio Norae programs are designed to complement ongoing therapeutic support. No guarantees are made regarding outcomes, results, or the resolution of any physical, emotional, or psychological condition.

5.  EMOTIONAL CONTENT & ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Studio Norae programs are intentionally designed to invite participants into closer contact with their inner experience. Difficult emotions, unexpected feelings, physical sensations, or material from the past may arise during or after sessions. This is part of the process and the container is designed to hold it.

By registering, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • You are voluntarily choosing to participate in programs that may surface difficult emotional or psychological material

  • You are responsible for your own emotional wellbeing and for communicating with the facilitator if something arises that feels beyond your capacity to hold

  • You have adequate support in place to process material that may arise between sessions

  • Studio Norae is not liable for emotional or psychological distress arising from voluntary participation in its programs beyond what is covered by applicable insurance and the limits described in Section 10

You are encouraged to have a therapist or trusted mental health professional in place before and throughout your participation in any program. If you do not have a therapist and would like a referral, contact lauren@studionorae.com.

6.  PHYSICAL PARTICIPATION & ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Studio Norae programs include gentle yoga, mindful movement, breathwork, and hand-sculpting in clay. While these practices are accessible to most bodies, all movement and physical activity carries inherent risk.

By registering, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • You are voluntarily choosing to participate in physical activities including yoga, movement, and clay work

  • You have disclosed any physical injuries, conditions, or limitations that may be relevant

  • You are responsible for working within your own physical capacity at all times

  • Lauren Shin is not a medical professional and cannot provide medical advice or diagnosis

  • Studio Norae is not liable for physical injury resulting from voluntary participation in its programs beyond what is covered by applicable insurance

If you experience physical discomfort or pain during any session, you are encouraged to slow down, modify, or stop the activity and notify the facilitator.

7.  CLAY PIECES & MATERIALS

Programs that include clay sculpting involve hand-building with provided materials. The following terms apply to all clay work:

  • All clay materials, tools, glazing, and firing are included in the program fee unless otherwise stated

  • Finished pieces are glazed and fired by Lauren Shin and returned to participants within 30 days of the final session

  • Natural variations in glazing, color, and texture are inherent to the ceramic process and are not defects

  • Pieces not claimed within 30 days of notification of completion may be respectfully disposed of

  • Studio Norae is not liable for natural variations in firing outcomes or for pieces damaged during the firing process due to factors inherent to ceramics

  • Clay work is conducted in a home studio setting using food-safe materials

8.  PAYMENTS

All program fees are listed at the time of registration. By completing payment, you agree to the full program fee and all associated terms.

  • Payments are processed through Shopify and PayPal

  • All prices are listed in USD unless otherwise stated

  • Payment in full is required to secure your place in any program

  • Studio Norae reserves the right to update pricing at any time. Registered participants are not subject to price changes after payment is received

9.  CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS

Program Registrations

Due to the small group nature of Studio Norae programs and the preparation involved in each cohort, the following refund policy applies to all program registrations:

  • More than 14 days before the program start date — a 50% refund will be issued upon written request to lauren@studionorae.com. The remaining 50% is non-refundable to account for preparation, materials, and the held spot.

  • Within 14 days of the program start date — no refund is available. Registration is non-refundable regardless of reason for cancellation.

  • After the program has begun — no refund is available for participants who withdraw, miss sessions, or choose not to complete the program once it is underway. Individual missed sessions are non-refundable and cannot be made up unless otherwise arranged at Lauren’s discretion.

Rescheduling

Requests to transfer your registration to a future cohort may be considered with more than 14 days notice and are granted at Studio Norae’s sole discretion. Rescheduling is not guaranteed and is offered as a courtesy rather than a right.

Studio Norae Cancellations

In the rare event that Studio Norae cancels a program, all registered participants will receive a full refund or the option to transfer to a future cohort.

For questions about cancellation or rescheduling, contact lauren@studionorae.com before your program begins.

This limitation of liability applies to the fullest extent permitted under the laws of the State of Hawaii. Nothing in these terms limits liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

11.  INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

  • Participants may not record sessions, photograph other participants, or share facilitator materials publicly without explicit consent

  • Participants retain ownership of their own clay pieces and written reflections created during programs

  • Testimonials or feedback provided by participants may be used for marketing purposes with separate explicit consent

12.  CONFIDENTIALITY & GROUP AGREEMENTS

Studio Norae programs are held in small, intimate group settings. By registering, you agree to honor the confidentiality of other participants:

  • What is shared within a program group stays within that group

  • You will not disclose other participants’ personal information, stories, or disclosures outside the program

  • You will listen without judgment, interruption, or unsolicited advice

Lauren Shin maintains confidentiality regarding participant information with the following exceptions: where there is reasonable concern for the safety of the participant or others, or where disclosure is required by law.

13.  PRIVACY & PERSONAL INFORMATION

  • Personal information is not sold or shared with third parties except as required to deliver services (e.g. payment processors) or as required by law

15.  GOVERNING LAW & DISPUTE RESOLUTION

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii. Any disputes arising from these terms or from participation in Studio Norae services will first be addressed through good-faith communication between the parties.

If direct resolution is not possible, both parties agree to pursue mediation in Honolulu County, Hawaii before initiating any legal proceedings.
